The second year of Choir Camp at St. Andrew’s was a success! From August 6-10 of this year, we had 27 young choristers, ages 4-10, who learned how to sing, played musical games, and practiced how to carry themselves as a choir in church. This weeklong day camp was from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and was made possible by the Friends of Music and the Arts at St. Andrew’s, adult and teen volunteers, Essel Linton, and Aaron Goen. Essel Linton is a local grade school music teacher in Annandale who specializes in the Orff method of music making. Aaron Goen is Director of Music at St. Andrew’s and has experience working with young singers, ages 10-18 from his time working for The Choir School at St. Peters, Charlotte, NC. The week culminated in a short concert and demonstration on Friday and the choristers offering three pieces of music throughout the course of the Sunday service. We hope to continue this program in the future and encourage children from the community to join in the music making!
