Storms Prompt Flood Warning In Areas Of Fairfax, Loudoun Counties
A flood warning followed heavy rain from thunderstorms in parts of Northern Virginia.
FAIRFAX, VA — The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties Thursday evening following heavy rain from thunderstorms.
The warning said up to two inches of rain has fallen in these areas. The warning for southeastern Loudoun County and northwestern Fairfax County is in effect until 6:45 p.m. Locations with potential to flood are Centreville, Reston, South Riding, Herndon, Fairfax, Broadlands, Brambleton, Dulles International Airport, Oakton, Chantilly, Wolf Trap, Arcola and Fairfax Station.
As for Fairfax City and central Fairfax County, the warning goes through 7:30 p.m. Locations that will have flooding include Annandale, Springfield, Fairfax, Vienna, Falls Church, Mantua, Burke, Oakton, Lincolnia, Wolf Trap, Merrifield, Lake Barcroft, I-66 and I-495 Interchange, I-395 and I-495 Interchange, West Springfield, Seven Corners, Dunn Loring, North Springfield, Ravensworth and Baileys Crossroads.

Live traffic cameras from 511 Virginia showed severe flooding closing Fairfax Boulevard (Route 50) at Oak Street. According to Fairfax City Police, the flooding left disabled vehicles at the intersection.
