Tolls For Fairfax County Parkway Not Being Considered: Report
Resident feedback found tolls would have been an unpopular solution for the parkway.

After Fairfax County sought public feedback on potential fixes for the Fairfax County Parkway, officials are backing away from tolls.
WTOP reported Fairfax County Department of Transportation Planner Thomas Burke saying tolls are not an option going forward. He cited opposition from a public survey last fall.
In the survey, residents had to rate and comment on long-term solutions for the 30-mile Fairfax County Parkway and Franconia-Springfield Parkway corridor. HOV lanes also got some opposition, although some favor HOV-2 over HOV-3 lanes.

These included:
- HOV Lanes: One HOV lane in each direction, at least three people carpooling in a vehicle, no charge
- Bicycle/Pedestrian Improvements: Accommodations and infrastructure for pedestrians and bicyclists
- Transit: Bolster transit options and accessibility
- Widening/Interchanges: Increase roadway capacity
- Express/Toll Lanes: One toll lane in each direction, tolls similar to Interstate 495
The long-term plan for the Fairfax County Parkway is different from the Virginia Department of Transportation's study recommending short-term improvements—ones that can be pushed out in one to 10 years. According to WTOP, the long-term plan could get final approval next year.
