What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2020 In Burke
Many services are closed on Thursday and Friday for the Christmas holiday.

As Christmas approaches this week, families are tasked with modifying holiday plans to limit the chances of spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 illness. One thing that remains the same is the closure or modification of many services in Burke for the holiday.
Some services may be closed for Christmas Eve (Thursday, Dec. 24) and Christmas Day (Friday, Dec. 25). Here are the openings and closings to know for both days.
Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will close at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 23, and will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25. Circuit Court is closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Fairfax County Public Schools: The school district will be closed for winter break from Monday, Dec. 21 through Friday, Jan. 1.

Animal shelter: The animal shelter is closed on Dec. 24 and 25. Due to the pandemic, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's services are available by appointment only.
Burke Centre Conservancy: Dec. 24 is a floating holiday for Burke Centre employees and Dec. 25 is a holiday.
Community Centers: Fairfax County community centers are open by reservation only. Centers will close at noon on Dec. 24 and 4 p.m. on Dec. 31. Normal hours will resume on Jan. 4.
Department of Motor Vehicles: The state DMV offices are by appointment only; walk-in services are not available at this time.
Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 24, Fairfax Connector runs regular weekday service. On Dec. 25, there will be service on a Sunday schedule. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.
Libraries: All Fairfax County Library branches will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Metro: Metrorail operates on a Sunday schedule from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations are closed from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3. Metrobus routes operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables.
Park authority: On Dec. 24, Burke Lake Golf Center will close at 4 p.m., Greendale Golf Course, Oak Marr Golf Complex and Twin Lakes Golf Course will close at 2 p.m., Jefferson District Golf Course will have the last tee time at noon, Laurel Hill Golf Club will close at noon, Pinecrest Golf Course will have the last tee time at 2 p.m. All golf courses will be closed on Dec. 25. Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation centers: All RECenters except George Washington RECenter are open until noon on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.
Trash and recycling collection: For county collection customers, there will not be recycling collection on Dec. 25. Service scheduled on Christmas Day will be collected one day later. Monday through Thursday customers will be collected on their respective days. If you have private collection, contact your hauler.
Trash and recycling centers: Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 25. Administrative offices will close at noon on Dec. 24 and on Dec. 25.
Virginia Railway Express: There is no VRE service on Dec. 24 and 25. There will be S schedule service on the weekdays between Christmas and New Year's Day. For more information, visit www.vre.org.
