What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2020 In Burke

Many services are closed on Thanksgiving, and some will remain closed Friday.

Thanksgiving may be different for some who may avoid larger gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19. What hasn't changed is the closure of many services in Burke for the holiday.

While Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, some services may continue their closures on Friday. Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 27 (Black Friday).

Fairfax County government offices: closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.

Courts: Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will close at noon on Nov. 25, and will remain closed Nov. 26 and 27.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed from Nov. 25 to 27. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 1, as Monday, Nov. 30 is an asynchronous learning day. School sites and bus routes served additional student meals on Tuesday, Nov. 24, as there will be no meal service between Nov. 25 and 27.

Animal shelter: Due to the pandemic, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's services are available by appointment only.

Burke Centre Conservancy: Closed on Thanksgiving.

Fairfax Connector: On Nov. 26, Fairfax Connector will run on a Sunday schedule. Routes that operate on Sundays are: 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 721, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4, and RIBS 5.

Libraries: Fairfax County library branches are closed on Nov. 26 and 27.

Metro: On Thursday, Metrorail will run on a Sunday schedule from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Parking at Metro-owned lots and garages is free on the holiday, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day. Metrobus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables. On Nov. 27 to 29, weekend shutdowns of the Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield stations will begin.

Park authority: Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park Farm, Visitor Center and Indoor Arena, and Green Spring Gardens Horticultural Center Historic House are closed on Nov. 26. All of these will remain closed on Nov. 27, except Frying Pan Farm Park's farm, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Post offices: Closed on Nov. 26.

Recreation centers: All RECenters are open regular hours through noon on Nov. 26, except the George Washington RECenter, which is closed. RECenters are open regular hours on Nov. 27.

Trash and recycling collection: For Fairfax County collection customers, there is no change for collection on Nov. 26 and 27. If you have private collection, contact your hauler.

Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill Complex are closed on Nov. 26.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Thanksgiving or the day after.
