UPDATE: Fairfax County Police Chief Injured in Crash Involving Drunk Driver: Police
BREAKING: A Centreville woman was charged with DWI after rear-ending the police chief's cruiser Monday night in Centreville, police say.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA (UPDATE 12:25 p.m. We've added new details and photos from FCPD) — The Fairfax County Police Department's chief of police was injured Monday night in a car crash in Centreville when his car was involved in a crash with a drunk driver, according to the police department.
Police Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. was injured after a driver rear-ended his unmarked cruiser at Lee Highway and Stone Road in Centreville as the chief was stopped at a traffic light (see map below), according to spokeswoman Julie Parker.
"I'm just one of the thousands of victims (of drunk drivers)," Roessler said. "If I wasn't buckled in, I don't think I'd be here."

Roessler was heading southbound on Lee Highway, on his way home from a police awards event, when his SUV was hit Monday night at about 8:40 p.m. He notified police dispatchers, using the police radio in his car; he was taken to Inova Fair Oaks hospital for minor injuries and was discharged about an hour later.
Christie Edgar, 40, of Centreville was charged with DWI in the crash and taken to the Adult Detention Center, according to police. She was released Tuesday morning at about 9:30 a.m., police said. A 48-year old man, a passenger in Edgar's car, was released at the scene.

Roessler has about 27 years of police experience. He was appointed police chief in 2013 by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. He is a resident of Centreville.
