CENTREVILLE, VA — GreenDrop opened a donation center in Centreville on Jan. 1, the company's second site in Fairfax County where residents can drop off clothing and household items. When a vehicle pulls up to the center, a uniformed attendant removes the items from the vehicle and then asks the driver to pick a charity that will receive money generated from the donation. The attendant then gives the driver a tax deductible receipt.

The donated items are sold to 2nd Ave, an affiliate of GreenDrop, and other thrift store operators. The money raised from the sales goes to GreenDrop's charity partners, including the American Red Cross, Military Order of the Purple Heart, National Federation of the Blind and Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Philadelphia. In 2018, charity proceeds from GreenDrop's sale of donated items to thrift stores totaled more than $3.1 million.

GreenDrop accepts all articles of clothing, shoes, blankets and bedding, as well as tools, kitchenware, toys, small appliances, electronics, musical instruments and sporting goods. Donated items should weigh 50 pounds or less.
