CHANTILLY, VA—Eung Kim went online the other day to check out the winning numbers for the Virginia Lottery "Virginia New Year's Millionaire Raffle." He had bought a ticket, you see, so he might as well see if he somehow defied the odds.

Defy the odds he did. And now he's $1 million richer. "It was a shock," the Chantilly resident told lottery officials. "I've never won before." He bought his winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 14533 Lee Road in Chantilly, which received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winner.

The other two top-prize tickets were bought in Arlington and Richmond. Five winning $100,000 tickets were purchased in Manassas, Crozet, Henrico, Winchester and Blacksburg.
