Changes Coming To South Riding Intersection
Loudoun County and VDOT plan to change the traffic pattern at the intersection of Elk Lick Road and Tall Cedars Parkway in South Riding.

CHANTILLY, VA — Loudoun County plans to make changes this weekend to the intersection of Tall Cedars Parkway and Elk Lick Road in South Riding. Construction work at the intersection is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21.
"Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this time due to multiple lane closures at the intersection," the county said in a statement. South Riding is a planned community south of Route 50 and west of Chantilly.
The scheduled construction is the first phase of a two-phase project to improve safety at the intersection by allowing right turns only from Elk Lick Road in both directions onto Tall Cedars Parkway. The intersection is near the South Riding Town Center (see map below).

Stop signs on Tall Cedars and the existing pavement markings will be removed, and flex posts will be installed to prevent Elk Lick Road traffic from crossing Tall Cedars or making left turns.
In the project's second phase, scheduled next year, workers will install a permanent median on Tall Cedars in place of the flex posts.

"Studies performed at the intersection have determined that permanently restricting through-traffic on Elk Lick Road is the best way to improve safety by diverting traffic from Route 50 to alternate routes," the county said.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Loudoun County will continue to monitor the median restrictions at the intersection to determine whether more changes are required. Loudoun is funding the project, with the work being performed by VDOT.
If weather conditions prevent the start of construction on Saturday, the work will take place the following weekend on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28. Message boards have been placed at the intersection to update motorists on the project.
