Over the weekend, Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump has laid on the personal attacks on Clinton: "She's been the total enabler. She would go after these women and destroy their lives," Trump said at a rally, referring to women who have accused former President Bill Clinton of harassment. "She was an unbelievably nasty, mean enabler, and what she did to a lot of those women is disgraceful."
So far Clinton is keeping her race on the issues and has said in several interviews she's not going to get in the mud with Trump.
Clinton on Monday is campaigning in a swing state, visiting a county that is split down the middle when it comes to presidential elections. Loudoun County went for President Obama in the last presidential election, giving him 51.16 percent of the vote to Mitt Romney's 47.28 percent.Obama won Virginia in 2012. In 2008, Obama also won, with 53.86 percent of the vote to John McCain's 45.91 percent.
Residents in the area have a median annual income of about $129,000, with an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent for the county.
Stone Ridge is part of the 10th congressional District, represented by Republican Barbara Comstock, who said last week she won't support Trump. It was previously represented by longtime Congressman Frank Wolf, who led the charge against Clinton on Benghazi.
“I can’t support Hillary Clinton, and I won’t be, but Donald Trump needs to earn the votes of me and many others,” Comstock said last week, echoing Speaker Paul Ryan, who is set to meet with Trump on Thursday.
Comstock, who faces an election challenge from Democrat LuAnn Bennett, former wife of Northern Virginia Congressman Jim Moran, has been mentioned by NBC's Chuck Todd as a "vulnerable Republican" who could be "weighed down by Trump's baggage."
Does Comstock have her eye on a higher office? According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Comstock has registered domain names to run for the U.S. Senate. "Turns out that Comstock’s team has started buying up domain names apparently in anticipation of her upcoming run for Senate. Comstock is now the proud owner of comstockforsenate.com,comstockforsenate.org, barbaracomstockforsenate.com, and barbaracomstockforsenate.org," the DCCC said recently in a news release.
Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, a former Virginia governor, has been talked up as a running mate for Clinton.
Clinton won the Virginia Democratic primaries March 1, defeating opponent Bernie Sanders by almost 30 percentage points.
Clinton is visiting Loudoun County Monday fresh off winning Guam and its 12 delegates and on the eve of the West Virginia primary, where her Democratic opponent in the primary, Sanders, is ahead in the latest polls.
