M/I Homes’ Jerry Berman Appointed Board President Of HomeAid Northern Virginia

From HANV: HomeAid Northern Virginia (HANV) announced today that Jerry Berman, area president of M/I Homes, has been elected and appointed president of its board of directors.

A former president of the Northern Virginia Building Association (2015), Berman has been involved in homebuilding and real estate for more than 36 years including leadership positions at Lennar, U.S. Home Corp, Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Summit Homes and Associa.

Berman has represented M/I Homes on the HANV board for eight years. As board president, Berman aims to move HomeAid’s newly updated strategic plan forward and focus on opportunities to grow. “Our industry is uniquely positioned to help vulnerable individuals and families in our community who are in need of housing gain stability and get back on the road to self-sufficiency. We need to stick to our core mission but we also must focus on how to expand and help even more people and partner with more organizations serving the homeless in our region. I look forward to working with the HANV staff and board to identify further opportunities for us to have impact,”” said Berman.

M/I Homes has been actively involved in HomeAid projects, including serving as a “builder captain” for the upgrade and renovation of:

• Emergency Shelter for Teenagers and a group home for young mothers looking to finish their education and gain employment###licondominium providing a safe environment to a young mother and her child who were survivors of domestic violence###lihome to serve as transitional housing for local families in crisis’>
• Fauquier Family Shelter Services’ Vint Hill Transitional Housing Program residence that offers an intensive one year program assisting families in the transition from being homeless to acquiring skills necessary to maintain stable and independent living

Joining Berman on the HomeAid Northern Virginia 2017 executive committee are Greg Carter (Bank of America Merrill Lynch), immediate past president; Mike Sandkuhler (The Christopher Companies), vice president/president-elect; Rick Cole (The Long Companies), treasurer; and David Gill (McGuire Woods, LLP), secretary. In addition, four new members were elected to HANV’s 2017 Board of Directors: Jack Gallagher (Richmond American Homes), Gary Chandler (K. Hovnanian Homes), Warren Ralston (WC Ralston Architects) and Jarod Blaney (Pulte Homes).

HomeAid Northern Virginia, a chapter of HomeAid America, engages the resources and interests of the homebuilding community and its corporate partners in order to undertake new construction and major renovations to properties owned by homelessness service providers that help homeless individuals and families gain stability and get back on the road to self-sufficiency. The organization was started in 2001 by members of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA), and since then, has completed more than 114 projects valued at more than $14.7 million, serving more than 98,000 homeless individuals.
