National Teacher Day is Tuesday: Tell Us About Your Favorite Teacher

Most adults can credit their work ethic and career choices to teachers who inspired them.

Tuesday marks National Teacher Day, which is sponsored by the National Education Association to encourage people to recognize and thank their favorite teachers, past and present.

Nonprofit organiztion Kars4Kids recently surveyed 1,000 American adults to measure how teachers impacted adults and ways adults have expressed their appreciation. The survey found the following:

  • 80 percent of adults recognize that their work ethic, time spent as a volunteer, and career choice was a direct result of teachers who inspired them in the classroom.
  • 78 percent of U.S. adults had an out-of-classroom experience with their teacher enhancing their learning.
  • 61 percent believe that teachers taught them skills outside of the standard curriculum.
  • Nearly three quarters of adults said they would want their children to have the same teachers they did.
