Chantilly’s own PowerWorx Competition Team named global Finalist for the Star Dance Alliance (SDA) Studio Excellence Award. Out of approximately 5,000 studios in the world, SDA’s panel of judges selected only six studios as finalists who vied for a $20,000.00 cash prize awarded to the studio winner. Studio representatives from the Top Six Finalists were invited to attend the prestigious Circle of Excellence Gala in 2019, in the Meadowlands, New Jersey, where the Studio Excellence Award Winner was announced.
“To be recognized as one of the top studios in the country in our 3rd year is quite an amazing experience,” said Staci Frye, PowerWorx Team Director. “As the only studio in the Northern Virginia area that houses a nationally-recognized Competition Team and Worlds Dance Teams, we are constantly finding new ways to challenge our dancers. As we look toward our future, we will continue to innovate.”

To be eligible for the SDA Studio Excellence Award and ultimately qualify as a finalist, studios were invited to identify and submit eight Advanced dances that showcased styles in Ballet, Tap, Lyrical/Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and/or Hip Hop and compete those entries at a minimum of two SDA Regional events and one SDA National Championship. Seven of the eight dances were choreographed by PowerWorx staff, Jamie and Staci Frye, and costumed by G&M Originals. PWD’s strong showing at NexStar Nationals Championship in Sandusky, Ohio, helped secure the Top Six spot.
