UPDATE: Natural Gas Explosion in Chantilly

A house has exploded on Lees Corner Road

Update: Tuesday, 10:50 a.m.

According to Washington Gas, there is no new information about what caused the initial gas leak; the investigation is still ongoing.   

The American Red Cross has been contacted to determine how the community can help the family.  That information will be posted as soon as it's received.

Ruben E. Rodriguez, Director of Corporate Communications for Washington Gas, says that the investigation for the source of the gas leak is still underway.  However, the neighbors do have gas at their homes.  

The Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department Public Information Office confirmed that the house that exploded, which was valued at $400,000, is now a total loss.  The American Red Cross is assisting the family that lost its home.

Update: 10:43 p.m.

According to Fairfax County Deputy Fire Chief Chuck Ryan, one house has been destroyed by what officials believe to be a natural gas explosion. The occupants were not home at the time, and there are no reported injuries or deaths.  Two adults and two children have been displaced. 

Two houses on either side have sustained substantial damages from the force of the explosion.  Washington Gas officials are on the scene to determine where the explosion originated.  Gas officials are still looking for an outside gas leak. Officials estimate that this investigation will take another hour. 

Although the smell of gas is present in the streets, there is no danger to the neighboring residents, and those whose homes were undamaged have been allowed to return to their houses for the night.   

Update: 10:11 p.m.

A house has exploded and there are unconfirmed reports that there has been one death.  Homes have been evacuated.

There is a two-alarm fire at 4303 Lees Corner Rd.  Fairfax County Fire & Rescue is on the scene and there are reports of a natural gas smell in the area.
