3 Tips for Redecorating in January

New year -- need a fresh start? Design bloggers offer tips for decorating your home to make it really stand out on social media!

When it comes to updating your home for the year ahead, there are some simple ways to improve its appearance and make it welcoming to friends and family. While it's important to create a space that's cozy and comfortable, there is also some pressure to make it look appealing to our digital audiences.

Local blinds company, Next Day Blinds, asked leading design bloggers for tips on how to make your home stand out in social media pictures; here are a few of their top suggestions:

Clean up the Clutter

Nothing makes a house look worse than a mess. It's amazing what a difference a quick clean up can do. Tuck unnecessary items into a storage closet, hang up clothes, wipe down counters, and run a vacuum over bare floors. "Keep it clean and simple" says Kimberly Musser, to make a big difference in the overall appearance of your household.

Incorporate Natural Hues

Once the basics have been attended to, try "bringing nature in", recommends Nashville-based design expert Jessica Davis. Find a plant (real or fake!) and set it up in a bright corner. Opt for earthy greens and serene blues to add a relaxing whimsy to your living space. Our brains react very differently to various colors. Adding bright slipcovers to pillows on a couch or chair in a common area can make a big impact on a guest when they enter the room.

Decorate in Three's

Visually, our eyes like the balance of three's. Designer Larina Kase of Larina Kase Interior Design recommends "Pair items in threes around a strong focal point. On Instagram, simplicity is king and queen."
