AHC Launches Backpack Drive for Low-Income Arlington Students

Gifts can set to be recurring. Corporate matches are allowed.

AHC, an Arlington-based nonprofit developer of affordable housing, has launched a school supply and backpack drive for elementary school students from low- to very low-income families living in its housing communities.

AHC will use 100 percent of donations to give students a backpack full of school supplies.

"We leverage each dollar you donate by purchasing these supplies at special prices. If you can help us with the cost of even one child's back-to-school bundle, it will really help," according to the nonprofit's newsletter.

Each $18 gift covers a single backpack full of supplies. Donations can range from one backpack to 20 — that's a $360 donation — can be set to be recurring, and can be made in honor of or in memory of someone. Corporate matches are also allowed.

This year, AHC hopes to supply 350 to 400 children with backpacks, Celia Slater with the nonprofit told Patch in an email.
