Heat Advisory: Thursday's Heat Index Will Top 100 Degrees, Storms Possible

Temperatures on Thursday will hover dangerously close to 100 degrees, but it's going to feel even hotter than that outside.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that started at noon Wednesday and will last through Thursday evening. Sunset won't provide much in the way of relief, though. Forecasts indicate nighttime temperatures will continue to hover in the 80s and 90s.

Storms could pop up around the metro region on Thursday and Friday afternoons, possibly producing "locally damaging wind gusts," according to the National Weather Service.

Arlington County offers several tips to stay cool during the extreme heat—the easiest of which is to stay inside. Arlington Transit said bus passengers are welcome to drink bottled water during bus trips. Drinks are usually prohibited while riding the system. WMATA is also allowing passengers to drink water on the metro system.
