Northern Virginia Weather Forecast: Monday Storm Timeline
Heavy rains, fierce winds across the region Monday. Here's a look at the timeline for the storm, according to the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — Fierce winds and heavy rains are in the forecast for Monday across Northern Virginia. The timeline for the worst of the storm has it moving north through the afternoon.
A wind advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. for Fairfax, Arlington and Washington, D.C. But strong winds could be felt in other parts of the rest of the region as well. Sustained winds could reach 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Hundreds were without power Monday morning, and outages could increase as winds and rain continue through the region. At 9:45, nearly 500 were without power in North Stafford, with an additional 400 in the dark in parts of Fairfax, according to Dominion Power.
The heaviest rain is expected to fall through noon for communities south of D.C. and until 2 p.m. for communities north of D.C.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to be careful and to watch out for standing water on roadways.
Rain is likely to continue through the evening and begin to clear overnight. Tuesday will still see some strong gusts but with sustained winds around 15 mph.
By Wednesday, we'll have mostly sunny skies and highs nearing 60 degrees.
