A plan proposed by a developer to replace Red Top Cab’s operations center in Clarendon with three residential buildings won a green light this week from Arlington County.

The county’s Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to approve a plan by Shooshan Co. to redevelop the 3.5-acre site at Washington Boulevard and 13th Street North. The plan calls for three free-standing buildings with a total of 580 residential units and nearly 3,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space on the site, with 468 underground parking spaces, according to a county news release.

The project will include street realignments to improve the connections between 13th Street and Washington Boulevard, and to create space for a new park at that intersection, the county said. Shooshan also has agreed to provide at least six affordable housing units.

In approving the project, the board adopted the site plan and a related zoning ordinance amendment. Red Top Cab is a joint venture partner in the redevelopment and is expected to move its operations to another site in Arlington, the Washington Business Journal reported.

The current site consists mostly of parking lots, the Business Journal said. Two structures on the site, a two-story commercial building and a child care center, would be demolished.
