ALEXANDRIA, VA — A City of Alexandria and DASH Bus project team has released recommendations for a redrawn bus system. If approved, the bus service changes could happen in two phases: by 2022 for the short term and by 2030 for the long term.

Over two years, the city, DASH and other partners worked on redrawing the bus system to meet current and future transit demand, as well as meet community priorities for bus service. The redrawn bus system for 2022 puts 65 percent of residents within a quarter mile of frequent weekday service bus stops, compared to 27 percent in the existing system. In addition, 66 percent of jobs would be within a quarter mile of a frequent weekday service bus stop, compared to 40 percent now.

Bus service changes for the 2022 network would begin to be implemented as soon as fall 2020, and the long-term network would be in place by 2030.
