Alexandria Claims One Of Best Casual Eateries In The Region
The Washington Post's food reporter put together a list of his favorite casual eateries from years of reviews.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—It's not easy to make Washington Post food reporter Tim Carman's list of the region's 25 best casual eateries. This year Alexandria can claim a spot on the list.
The best casual eateries list is based on years of reviewing hundreds of locally-owned restaurants in the DC region. The restaurants all had a chef or owner who make food from their home countries or hometowns—and have stories to tell. In Alexandria, Royal Nepal made the list.
Royal Nepal has been open since the spring of 2017 at 3807 Mount Vernon Avenue. Carman touts the appeal of yak meat as an alternative to beef, as Hindus consider the cow to be sacred. According to Carman, Royal Nepal's menu "has more highlights than an ESPN clip: yogurt-marinated lamb chops, wild boar curry, buffalo momo and, of course, sel roti, the fried, ring-shaped bread that’s your introduction to this elegant statement on Nepalese cooking."

The best casual eateries list isn't meant to be the same thing as a cheap eats list, Carman wrote. Seven of the restaurants are in Northern Virginia, seven are in Maryland, and the remainder are in DC. The restaurants are not ranked in any particular order.
