Alexandria Library To End Kanopy Movie Streaming Service
The library says pricing changes for the Kanopy streaming service became too costly.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Library is set to end access to the Kanopy on-demand movie streaming service for members on April 30.
Using a library barcode number and pin, members can create a Kanopy account and start streaming movies. The library began offering the streaming service for free to members in August 2018.
The original streaming limit was 10 movies per month. But while the service was free to library members, the library itself paid $2 for each video played longer than four minutes. Citing high costs, the library decreased the streaming limit to four movies a month for each member.

The library decided to eliminate the service after Kanopy began packaging movies into specialty groups and increasing prices to $5 per download.
"Additional and continual changes within Kanopy’s price packaging structure have made it difficult for the Library to continue offering the service," Alexandria Library said in a statement.
