Alexandria Little League Team Wins Championship, Advances

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The Alexandria Little League Junior All-Star Teams are state champions after a 10-0 victory in the 2018 Junior League State Tournament championship game Monday. Now they're heading to a regional tournament and need some community support to get there.

The Southeast Regional Tournament will be held Aug. 2-7 in Fort Myers, Florida. The Alexandria team will take on the state champions from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and West Virginia.

The team started a GoFundMe page to defray the travel costs for the team players and managers. Funds go directly to the Alexandria Little League.

The 2018 Junior League State Tournament was hosted by Alexandria Little League July 5 through 11. The team states on its GoFundMe page, "Many thanks to family and friends who came out to cheer them on! It's always more fun to win in your own backyard!"

Alexandria Little League has not only allowed hundreds of Alexandria kids to play baseball but has brought the community together. Less than a week after the June 14, 2017 shooting at Eugene Simpson Field, the Little League made a resilient return to the field to play ball.
