ALEXANDRIA, VA — 2019 is coming to a close, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate the new year. Whether you prefer staying at home to watch the ball drop in TV or heading out to celebrate at a local party, we have you covered.

We've rounded up some event options around Alexandria, as well as New Year's Eve TV programming information. Let us know in the comments if we missed anything. We will update this guide up to New Year's Eve.

First Night Alexandria: 6 p.m.-1 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

Alexandria's New Year's Eve celebration celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., check out live music at 25 indoor venues lining King Street from the Metro station to the waterfront. Younger residents can find entertainment at four Kids Karnivals from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with their own creative countdown. The Kids Karnivals are planned at Charles Houston Recreation Center, Washington Street United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon Recreation Center and William Ramsay Recreation Center.

Beginning at 10 p.m., head to Waterfront Park for the “Rockin’ on the River” dance party with DJ Ray Casiano, food trucks, prizes and a fireworks finale at midnight sponsored by MGM National Harbor. The midnight fireworks will be visible over the Potomac River from the foot of King Street.

Tickets are required for entrance into First Night Alexandria indoor venues and the “Rockin’ on the River” dance party. Anyone 13 years and older needs a badge, but kids 12 and under and active military are free. Kids Karnival is $5 for kids ages 2-12 and free for parents and infants. Fireworks are free to attend outside the “Rockin’ on the River” dance party.

Buy badges online at firstnightalexandria.org/buy-tickets, at the Alexandria Visitor Center (221 King Street) from Dec. 21 to 31, and on Dec. 31 at Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N. Union Street) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Durant Arts Center (1605 Cameron Street) from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and George Washington Masonic Memorial (101 Callahan Drive) from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

International New Year's Eve Celebration Gala: 8:30 p.m.-3 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

Join Inner Caucus, WHUR 96.3FM and Carifiesta for their annual New Year's Eve gala. With your ticket is complimentary hors d'oeuvres before 11 p.m., champagne and party favors until midnight. New Year’s Eve with THE SELDOM SCENE, Old Town Flood & Circa Blue at The Birchmere: 8 p.m. on Dec. 31

Vola's New Year's Eve ICE Party: 9 p.m.-1 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

The dockside patio will transform into a party venue for New Year's Eve. Enjoy a raw oyster bar, appetizers, desserts, beer wine and cocktails, champagne toast, DJ and dancing, and midnight fireworks over the waterfront. This event is ages 21 and up. New Year's Eve at Cafe 44: 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

12th Annual Light Horse New Year's Eve Party: 8 p.m.-2 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

NYE at Sonoma Cellar: 10 p.m.-1:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

Augie's New Year's Eve Celebration: 9 p.m.-2 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

Free New Year's Masquerade Ball at Hops N Shine: 9 p.m.-1 a.m. on Dec. 31 to Jan. 1

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest: 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 on ABC

This New Year's Eve special broadcast live from Times Square is a tradition for many families. Performers confirmed for the New York City festivities are Post Malone, BTS, Sam Hunt and Alanis Morissette, according to The Washington Post.
