Alexandria Police ID Boy Struck, Killed in West End Crash

Jacob Choi ran into the street May 4 on Stevenson Avenue.

Alexandria police have released the name of the 4-year-old boy who was struck and killed May 4 when he ran into the street and in front of an oncoming SUV.

Police identified the boy as Jacob Choi. They did not say if he lived near the crash area, on Stevenson Avenue in West End Alexandria. A police spokeswoman earlier said that Choi had family in the area.

The boy was walking alongside the road with his mother when he broke free and ran, said Alexandria police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt. The boy’s mother ran after him and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed was not determined to be a factor in the crash, and the 84-year-old driver of the Jeep SUV faces no criminal charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
