ACPS Handles Multiple Incidents Friday at Schools, Central Office

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- A bomb threat and a lock-in due to a nearby bank robbery disrupted two City schools Friday, the Alexandria City Public Schools said:

Charles Barrett Elementary School was initially placed on lock-in and then evacuated due to a bomb threat. Students were evacuated to 1225 Martha Custis Drive. Bus riders were dismissed from this location. Once the police had cleared the building, remaining students returned to the school for a later-than-usual dismissal. At exactly the same time, Central Office was placed on a lock-in due to police activity in the area. This turned out to be a false alarm. A few minutes later Minnie Howard campus of T.C. Williams High School was placed on lock-in for approximately 30 minutes while police responded to a bank robbery in the area. The Alexandria Police Department investigated the bomb threat at Charles Barrett Elementary School Friday afternoon, police announced at 2:29 p.m Friday. The bomb threat was cleared by the Alexandria Police Department, police said in an alert at 3:26 p.m.

All after-school activities were canceled at Charles Barrett Elementary School after the school was evacuated Friday. Students dismissed from 1225 Martha Custis Drive.
