In the 45th House of Delegates race, Elizabeth Bennett-Parker won against incumbent Del. Mark Levine, 59.25 percent to 40.75 percent with all 26 precincts reporting. This includes Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax precincts in the 45th District.

"I’m honored to be the Democratic nominee for the 45th District," Bennett-Parker said. "Thank you for your votes; I look forward to working with all of the Democratic nominees to win in November, and to representing all of HD-45 in Richmond. Special thanks to our incredible team of volunteers who made phone calls, knocked on doors, talked to your neighbors, and handed out campaign literature. This is a grassroots campaign, and I could not have done this without you."

Since Alexandria is largely blue, candidates who win the primaries are likely to have success in the Nov. 2 general elections for Alexandria mayor, City Council, and 45th House of Delegates District.

Results for the Alexandria local races and statewide races came in after polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday through the Virginia Department of Elections.

The mayoral primary featured a rematch between Wilson and Silberberg, who served as mayor from January 2016 through December 2018. Wilson, the vice mayor under Silberberg had defeated the incumbent in the 2018 primary and went on to win the general election.

Tuesday's election also decides the Democratic candidates for City Council, which is made up of six members and the mayor. The council is slated to have a different look due to several incumbents not running. Bennett-Parker instead is running for the 45th District House of Delegates, while longtime Councilmember Del Pepper is not running for reelection. Councilmember Mo Seifeldein considered a run for mayor but decided not to run for mayor or City Council.

The 45th House of Delegates District, which includes part of Alexandria as well as parts of Fairfax and Arlington counties, has a primary race between incumbent Del. Mark Levine and Bennett-Parker. Levine is running for reelection as a delegate as well as for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. Alexandria's other district — the 46th House of Delegates District represented by Del. Charniele Herring — does not have a primary.

Statewide primaries for Virginia governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general also determined Nov. 2 general election. The winners are former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe for governor, Del. Hala Ayala for lieutenant governor, and Attorney General Mark Herring. Republicans held a convention to decide their nominees — Glenn Youngkin for governor, Winsome Sears for lieutenant governor and Jason Miyares for attorney general.

As of 4 p.m. the City of Alexandria reported an 11.75 percent voter turnout, a total of 11,600 voters.
