Alexandria Recreation Centers To Be Reserved For Voting On Nov. 3
The city's elections office is following state and CDC guidance for polling places related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — City of Alexandria recreation centers will be open only for voting on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Some City of Alexandria services have schedule changes due to the Election Day state holiday.
Only registered voters assigned to the polling places may access the recreation centers on Election Day. To find your polling place vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation. You can also view a map of precincts in the City of Alexandria.

- Charles Barrett Recreation Center, 1115 Martha Custis Drive
- Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe Street
- Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility, 3210 King Street
- James K. Polk Recreation Center, 5000 Polk Avenue
- John Adams Recreation Center, 5651 Rayburn Avenue
- Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street
- Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center, 25 W. Reed Avenue

Before the recreation centers resume normal operations on Wednesday, Nov. 4, they will undergo deep cleaning as a safety precaution.
In-person voting locations will follow polling place safety guidelines from the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Office of Voter Registration and Elections' preparations include training for election officers, limiting the number of people inside each polling place at one time, providing hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies at each polling place, using extensive signage and floor markers, and providing plexiglass shields between voters and staff where needed. Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps volunteers will encourage proper mask use and physical distancing in outdoor lines and indoor polling places.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 3. An acceptable form of identification is required to vote in person, but it no longer has to be a photo ID. Examples of accepted IDs include a Virginia driver's license or DMV-issued photo ID, U.S. passport, and copy of a utility bill, paycheck or other government document showing the voter's address.

Here are other updates on City of Alexandria services on Election Day, Nov. 3:
- Resource Recovery: Residential refuse and recycling will be collected according to the City’s normal schedule for the weeks of Nov. 2; there will be no "holiday slide.” The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center (3224 Colvin St.) will be open on Nov. 3. - Animal Shelter: On Nov. 3, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., by appointment only, for both virtual and in-shelter animal visiting opportunities. To make an appointment, visit AlexandriaAnimals.org/Adopt-By-Appointment. For an animal emergency or wildlife concern, call 703-746-4444.
- Health Facilities: On Nov. 3, the Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.), the Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy (1200 N. Howard St.) and the Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) will be closed. Health Department COVID-19 case investigations and contact tracing will be operational on both dates.
- Historic Alexandria: City-operated museums and historic sites will be closed on Nov. 3.
- Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the adult protective services hotline at 1-888-832-3858; and the sexual assault hotline at 703-683-7273.
- Libraries: On November 3, the Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library (5005 Duke St.) will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for registered voters assigned to that polling place, but otherwise closed for the day. The Burke Library (4701 Seminary Road.) and Barrett Library (717 Queen St.) will be open for special hours, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Duncan Library will be open during regular hours, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Law Library will be open by appointment only. - Parking: All normal parking restrictions will be enforced on Nov. 3. Many polling places will have reserved parking for voters.
- Impound Facility: The City’s Impound Facility for towed vehicles (5249 Eisenhower Ave.) will be open on Nov. 3.
- Schools: Nov. 3 will be a teacher work day for the Alexandria City Public Schools. Students will not be expected to log in for virtual learning.
- State Offices: The following Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Alexandria will be closed on Nov. 3: the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Court Service Unit, located in the Alexandria Courthouse (520 King St.); and the Department of Motor Vehicles office located at 2681 Mill Road.
- Transit: On Nov. 3, DASH bus service will operate on a regular weekday schedule. The free King Street Trolley remains suspended until further notice, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Visit dashbus.com for more information.
