Commonwealth Avenue Repaving Begins In Rosemont

The repaving project in June will be split into two phases, according to the city's Transportation & Environmental Services.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Repaving of Commonwealth Avenue in the Rosemont neighborhood begins Monday, according to the Alexandria Transportation & Environmental Services department.

The repaving project will happen in two phases for part of June. The first phase entails milling and paving of Commonwealth Avenue from King Street to East and West Walnut Street from June 7 to 10. The second phase involves milling and repaving from East and West Walnut Street to East Braddock Road from June 11 to 17. Work happens weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. except on city holidays. The schedule is weather dependent.

As part of the project, T&ES will make curb and gutter improvements as needed, improve select ADA ramps, improve pedestrian safety at crosswalks, relocate a fire hydrant, and install concrete median.

Work will happen in five-block sections with the intent to complete each section in five days, starting at Cameron Street near the King Street Metro. No parking signs will be posted during the work.
