The Dairy Godmother Closes In Del Ray, Owner Says

The Dairy Godmother, a business in the heart of Del Ray, is closing, its owner writes Thursday. She's open to offers to buy, though.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — One of the businesses at the heart of Del Ray has closed its doors, according to owner Liz Davis. Davis writes Thursday that she will not be reopening after her annual winter hiatus, which started a few days ago. The beloved frozen custard shop has been around for nearly 17 years.

Opening as The Del Ray Dreamery, Davis has offered the same Wisconsin-style frozen custard throughout the years along with a bevy of other tasty treats. President Obama visited the shop with his daughters in 2009.

The business location at 2310 Mt. Vernon Ave. will be taken over next Friday during the hiatus period by Salt|Bagel, selling homemade pickles and bagels.
