Del Ray Kinderchoir Names Ben Hutchens Artistic Director

DEL RAY, VA - From Del Ray Kinderchoir: Alexandria’s community children’s choir, The Del Ray Kinderchoir is welcoming Dr. Benjamin Hutchens as its new managing artistic director starting in the 2018-19 season.

The Kinderchoir will be celebrating the end of its current season and formally welcoming Dr. Hutchens at its Spring Neighborhood Concert on May11, 6:30pm at Del Ray United Methodist Church (Lunceford Hall). The choir will hold auditions for the new season on May 17 and August 23 for children in grades 1-3 and 4-6. Ben Hutchens brings to the Kinderchoir a passion for music education and performance, specifically with children and young adults. He is currently the Director of Music Ministries at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alexandria where he directs an adult choir of 60 volunteer singers, graded children’s choirs, handbells, and serves as organist. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Music degree in violin performance from the University of Alabama, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Furman University.
