ALEXANDRIA, VA—If you're eager to spend more time outdoors with neighbors, you won't have to wait long. Del Ray's First Thursday street festivals will return in April along Mount Vernon Avenue. The first event will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Each month features a different theme. April's theme is "Hats Along the Avenue." Participants (and their pets) are welcome to sport their favorite hats while enjoying themed activities and live music from the Janna Audey Band and the Alexandria Country Day School band. The event is free.

First Thursday raises money for a different community group each month. This month's donations will go to Friends of Guest House, which helps women successfully reenter the community from incarceration. The group has an Amazon wish list, and items that are especially needed include twin bed sets and comforters and women's underwear of all sizes. Donations will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues).
