First Thursday: Show Your Spirit To Cap Off Season In Del Ray

The final First Thursday street festival of the season comes after Labor Day weekend.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — There's one more chance to enjoy Del Ray's First Thursday street festivals before the summer ends. The final event for the year will take place Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6 p.m. to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue. The event is free and open to all.

The theme for the September street festival is "Show Your Spirit." Guests can sport their team colors and enjoy live music, themed activities and more. The City of Alexandria and e-scooter companies will also host an outreach event on dockless scooters from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The events collect donations for a different nonprofit every month. The nonprofit for September is Space of Her Own, an art-based mentoring organization to help pre-teen girls in Northern Virginia, avoid delinquency, live healthfully, communicate openly, progress academically and give back to others. The group needs the following donations: $20 gift cards to Del Ray restaurants for girls to dine with their mentors and practice restaurant etiquette, table manners, dinner conversations, and how to treat and tip wait staff; lap desks for use in each girl's space transformation; and cash donations to support art and carpentry classes and projects. Donations can be dropped off at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square at Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues.
