ALEXANDRIA, VA — If you haven't gone on your beach vacation this year, the next First Thursday street festival in Del Ray is for you. The event on Thursday, Aug. 1 will take you on a tropical getaway with an "Aloha Thursday" theme.

The free monthly street festivals happen from 6 p.m. to dusk at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (intersection of Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues). Attendees are encouraged to come wearing their most outrageous Hawaiian shirts. The event will feature live music, themed activities and more. Pets are welcome.

The events collect donations for a different nonprofit every month. The nonprofit for August is Inspire Lit, which promotes literacy among children in Alexandria and ensuring they can access literary resources. Founded in 2016, the nonprofit has given children and classrooms tens of thousands of books. Attendees can bring new and gently used children's books to First Thursday.
