Interstate 395 Express Lanes To Close For 10 Weekends

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Interstate 395 Express Lanes won't be an option for at least 10 weekends, toll lane operator Transurban announced. The weekends of closures start at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 6.

The closures will happen for at least the next 10 weekends, but the lanes will be open during Easter weekend, April 10 to 12. The lanes will close from 11 p.m. on Friday nights to 4 a.m. on Monday mornings.

Crews will be working on construction activities including drainage, utility work, and hydro-demolition and bridge deck overlay placement at Express Lanes entrances and exits at Shirlington Circle and Seminary Road. Work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.

Another change is a new merge point for the ramp from eastbound Duke Street to southbound I-395. The ramp was extended to merge with traffic exiting from southbound I-395 Express Lanes. Traffic from this ramp will merge onto the southbound I-395 regular lanes. This new merge point will take effect the morning of Sunday, March 8.

The merge point change is attributed to construction of a fourth regular lane on southbound I-395 between Duke Street and Edsall Road. This lane is on pace to be completed in the summer.

The lanes, which opened in November as an extension of the I-95 Express Lanes, run eight miles between the DC line and Edsall Road. Tolls are dynamically priced based on the volume of traffic.
