New Parking Meters Proposed For 2 Areas In Alexandria
Metered parking is proposed for two blocks, while another area could get a lower hourly rate.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Alexandria Traffic and Parking Board will vote Monday to make recommendations on new parking meters and rate changes in the Del Ray and Carlyle/Eisenhower East areas.
The first of the proposals applies to the 1100 block of Main Line Boulevard, which is located near the Braddock Road Metro and George Washington Middle School and has about 40 parking spaces. City staff recommend a $1 per hour parking rate and $5 all-day rate. Meter hours would be on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with no maximum time limit.
Parking on the block is currently unrestricted and does not have meters. "As this is one of the few unrestricted blocks in the area and is very close to the Braddock Metro Station, this block typically has high occupancy and low turnover during the week, likely a result of commuter parking," reads a staff report.

There would be three pay stations installed on the block. The total installation cost would be $16,500, or $5,500 per pay station.
The other proposal impacts various Hoofs Run Drive and other nearby blocks. The proposed $1 per hour metered parking on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. would apply to:

- The 300 block of Hooffs Run Drive
- The 1800 block of Limerick Street
- The 800 block of Eisenhower Park Drive
- The 800 block of Bartholomew Street
- The 1800 block of Savoy Street
- The 800 block of John Carlyle Street
The only block without current metered parking in the proposal is Hooffs Run Drive. Staff note that vehicles often park beyond the two-hour limit on the road. The total cost for installing meters would be $16,500, or $5,500 per pay station.
In addition, the metered parking on the specified blocks of Limerick Street, Eisenhower Park Drive, Bartholomew Street, Savoy Street and John Carlyle Street would be reduced from $1.75 to $1 per hour. Staff say on-street parking is underutilized in this area. Metered parking is in effect Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a maximum two hours. The proposal would change it to Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The two-hour time limit would apply from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, but fees would be eliminated on Saturdays.
If approved, the board would recommend City Council set these metered parking rules for these areas. City code only allows a maximum four hours for metered parking citywide, but another proposal that could go to City Council would allow flexibility for all-day meter rates.
