Overnight Lane Closures Planned On I-395 In Alexandria
The nightly lane closures over the weekend will impact the I-395 regular and express lanes.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Overnight lane closures on Interstate 395 and the Express Lanes are planned over the weekend in Alexandria.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced the upcoming lane closures on I-395 at King Street from Friday, March 5 through Sunday, March 7. Crews will be conducting temporary restriping and concrete barrier work for the King Street over I-395 Bridge Rehabilitation project.
Starting on Friday, up to three southbound regular lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Once restriping work is done, southbound traffic will be temporarily shifted to the right. The Express Lanes will be in the southbound direction, and the left lane will be closed between 11 p.m. and 9 a.m. for concrete barrier removal.

On Saturday night, up to two southbound regular lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. for concrete barrier placement. The Express Lanes will be in the northbound direction, and up to two lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. and 9 a.m. for temporary restriping. Northbound Express Lanes traffic will be temporarily shifted to the right when restriping is complete.
On Sunday night, the 395 Express Lanes will be in the northbound direction, with up to two lanes closed between 9:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. for concrete barrier placement. There is no impact to the regular lanes on this night.

The $13 million King Street over I-395 Bridge Rehabilitation project is expected to be completed this summer. VDOT is upgrading the King Street overpass over I-395, as well as adding pedestrian improvements on King Street between Park Center Drive and Menokin Drive. Those pedestrian improvements include a new westbound King Street pedestrian crossing at 30th Street South, widened King Street median sidewalk between 30th Street South and Menokin Drive, widened westbound King Street sidewalk between 30th Street South and Park Center Drive, upgrades to curb ramps and King Street and Park Center Drive, and eastbound King Street and Menokin Drive, and upgrades to roadway lighting.
