Person Struck By Train In Alexandria Dies

Police say a person was hit on the tracks behind the Potomac Yard shopping center.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A person was killed after being struck by a Virginia Railway Express train in Alexandria Tuesday.

Alexandria Police Tuesday evening they were investigating the crash on the train tracks behind the movie theater at Potomac Yard shopping center. A police spokesman confirmed the fatality to the Washington Post but did not provide information on the victim. Police say the train did not derail.

VRE reported the incident involved a train on the Fredericksburg Line south of Crystal City. The commuter train service reported delays starting around 6:35 p.m. The train was expected to proceed after 8 p.m.
