Photos: Storm Brings Lightning, Outages To Alexandria
Residents captured images of lightning bolts in and around the city early Tuesday.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — A severe thunderstorm rocked the region into early Tuesday, putting on a lightning show in the sky comparable to DC's July 4 fireworks. But it also left thousands of Alexandria residents without power.
As of 11 a.m., Dominion Energy's outage map showed 3,570 outages in parts of Del Ray, Potomac Yard and North Old Town. That's a majority of the 4,886 outages reported statewide. Other scattered outages happened within Alexandria and the region. Outages can be reported to Dominion at 866-366-4357 or online.
Dominion did not provide causes for the outages, but residents observed the presence of heavy rain, lightning and thunder overnight Tuesday. There were reports of lightning within the city.

Then there's the matter of this. Would have been a nice stack but the spray was not cooperating. Note the bolts on the left hitting Oxon Cove near the Wilson Bridge. I had shelter. Please practice safe shooting and do not put yourself in danger. pic.twitter.com/o3ekfSBSkJ

.@capitalweather no fireworks display can compare to the view of Mother Nature. Perfect location a short time ago in Fairfax to watch the night sky safely toward Alexandria and points east into MD. pic.twitter.com/YuVQbqeXUj
