Person In Custody After Barricade Situation In Potomac Yard

Alexandria Police said Saturday the incident had been resolved after responding to the apartment building Friday morning.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The barricade incident involving a person with a gun in Potomac Yard has been resolved, Alexandria Police said Saturday at 6 a.m. The person involved has been taken into custody.

Police responded to the Notch 8 apartments in the 2900 block of Main Live Boulevard Friday morning. Lt. Courtney Ballantine, a spokesperson for police, told the Washington Post shots were fired in an apartment when police responded. The person was barricaded in the apartment as police attempted to resolve the situation.

As of 7:39 p.m. Friday, police said the apartment door was breached, causing residents to hear a loud bang. The incident is ongoing and residents were not yet allowed back in the building. At 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, police said the incident would continue overnight.

Residents had been evacuated or advised to shelter in place as police responded. Those who were evacuated from the building were advised to find shelter at The Frasier on Swann Avenue. The apartment leading office is giving residents direction for reentry.

According to police scanner information, SWAT units responded to the incident. Fire and rescue units were staged on the scene.
