Remnants Of Hurricane Delta To Drop Heavy Rains On NoVA, DC
Heavy rainfall is expected in northern Virginia and DC from the remnants of Hurricane Delta; a hazardous weather outlook has been issued.
WASHINGTON, DC — Up to three inches of rain is forecast to fall beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting through Monday night as the remnants of what was Hurricane Delta push across the Washington, D.C., region, according to the National Weather Service.
"Rain associated with post-Tropical Cyclone Delta will overspread the area early Sunday and continue into Monday morning," the National Weather Service said. "In general, one and half to three inches of rain are expected with the heaviest rains coming in Sunday night."
Rain will overspread the region Sunday afternoon and continue through the evening. Rain will be heavy at times, the NWS said shortly after noon.

The agency has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, tidal Potomac River, and northern Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia.
Moderate to locally heavy rain will develop Sunday afternoon and last much of the night. An isolated instance of flooding is possible near small streams or poor drainage areas.

"Post-Tropical Cyclone Delta is forecast to continue slowly weakening as it trudges up the Tennessee Valley and into the Southern Appalachians today," the weather service said. "It is expected to produce rain and thunderstorms out ahead of it from the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic, with the heaviest amounts falling in a swath from the Central Appalachians to southern New Jersey.
Here are the updated forecast details for DC and northern Virginia:
Sunday: Rain. Patchy fog. High near 70. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Sunday Night: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Areas of fog. Low around 63. East wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Monday: Rain before 11am, then showers likely after 11am. Areas of fog. High near 69. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Monday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Patchy fog before 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph.
