Seminary Road Repaving To Start After Alexandria Council Decision
Seminary Road will be reduced to one through-lane in each direction with the addition of bike lanes.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Repaving of Seminary Road is set to begin on Oct. 14 in Alexandria, the city announced. The process will incorporate lane changes approved by Alexandria City Council in September.
The first section of the road from Library Lane to North Howard Street will undergo resurfacing overnight from Oct. 14 to 18. Work hours will be 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The city has granted the contractor a noise variance permit for the nighttime work. Residents impacted by the work will be notified by letter and project signs. The city says the work was scheduled for nights "enable the work to be completed more quickly and safely, due to that section’s proximity to I-395."

The section of Seminary Road set to get a "road diet" — North Howard Street to North Quaker Lane — will be repaved from Oct. 21 to 28. Work hours will be between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Drivers should expect short-term lane closures and parking restrictions on side streets. All work excludes weekends, and roads will reopen to traffic at the end of each work day.
Once the repaving is complete, crews will implement the road design changes. Two through-lanes in each direction will become one through-lane in each direction. A center left-turn lane and bike lanes will be added. The portion of Seminary Road without a sidewalk will get an in-street, shared pedestrian and bicyclist space.
