Severe Thunderstorm Brings Outages To Alexandria

BREAKING: Thousands are without power after a severe thunderstorm in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria residents saw significant power outages after a storm swept through Thursday afternoon.

Dominion Energy's power outage map showed 3,600 outages before 5 p.m. in a section of Arlandria and Del Ray from the Arlington County border to the Braddock Road Metro. Around 300 customers lost power in the North Ridge area, and smaller outages were reported in the West End and in Old Town West.

If you see a traffic light without power, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Alexandria was under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4:15 p.m. Thursday. A watch continued until 8 p.m. with isolated to scattered severe storms possible, the National Weather Service said.
