The Spirit of the Season: Alive + Well in Del Ray
'Be the Light' community gathering set for Friday evening in Del Ray.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The spirit of the holiday season is alive and well in Del Ray, where residents are planning to gather Friday at 5:45 p.m. for music, poetry and meditation at the "Be the Light" installation at the Bean Creative field in the 2200 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue.
The interactive public art project encourages visitors to write down their intentions, like this one:

A week ago, I launched, "Be the Light," a glowing community art project that invites people to think about the light inside of them, write an intention about how they can bring that light into the world, then light a candle to add to the display. Curating the project has made a profound impact on me, and I'd like to share it with you in a letter to your light.
On Wednesday, there were only 21 spaces left but there are plans to add more if needed. You have time to add your intention and "let your light shine" through Dec. 26.
Read more about the project here. Can't make it Friday? The 30-minute community event will livestream on Facebook here.
