A glance at the week ahead in Alexandria: 

Rickie Lee Jones — The eclectic singer-songwriter, who came to prominence in 1979 with her hit “Chuck E.’s in Love,” takes the stage at The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave) at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21. Tickets at $39.50. For more information, check out the Birchmere website.

Help send the T.C. Williams marching band to the Sugar Bowl — Stop by Monroe’s Restaurant (1603 Commonwealth Ave.) for dinner—dine-in or carryout—between 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, and a percentage of all sales will be donated to the T.C. Williams marching band’s Sugar Bowl fun. The Marching Titans will represent Alexandria and Virginia at the 2014 Sugar Bowl, to be held Jan. 2, 2014, at the Superdome in New Orleans.

City Council — Alexandria City Council will hold its final legislative meeting of the month at 7p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. Among several things on the docket, councilmembers will be briefed on a series of ongoing regional transportation studies, including analysis of Route 1, Route 7 and a Potomac River commuter ferry. Art on the Rocks — The Art League has challenged five local mixologists to each select a juried piece of artwork from this month’s "Body Language" exhibit as inspiration for a new cocktail and then compete at Art on the Rocks, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 23 (105 North Union St.). Tickets for the event are on sale and cost $35 apiece. Attendees will sample and judge the artful cocktails while nibbling on appetizers from participating restaurants, taking in the October exhibits and swaying to live jazz music. Del Ray Halloween Parade — Get your costumes ready for this beloved Alexandria parade, which starts at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 on Mount Vernon Avenue. Prizes will be awarded for best-decorated stroller and best-decorated pet costume. Look for more information on the parade in the days ahead.
