Try Transit Week — Stop by the Alexandria Transit Store (near the corner of Duke Street and Diagonal Road) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for free daily giveaways all week. On Tuesday, those who take a train or DASH bus to the store can enter for a chance to win a free DASH pass and receive a free 2GB flash drive. More information on the city’s Local Motion website.

Animal Shelter Discovery Time — An employee from the Alexandria’s Vola Lawson Animal Shelter will stop by Duncan Library (2501 Commonwealth Ave.) at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the animals they have at the shelter and their habits, care and training. The half-hour program is for children in grades K to 5.

Gad Elmaleh — This Moroccan and French stand-up comedian and actor, who appeared in Woody Allen’s wonderful “Midnight in Paris,” stops by The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave.) for a French-speaking show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45. More information at The Birchmere website.

Trivia Night — Fireflies Restaurant (1501 Mount Vernon Ave.) hosts its trivia night beginning at 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be placed by calling 703-758-7200.

Treat Yourself — It’s Thirsty Tuesday at Cheesetique (2411 Mt Vernon Ave.), which recently celebrated its ninth birthday. Glasses of wine are 20 percent off at lunch and bottles of wine are offered at the same discount at dinner.
