ALEXANDRIA, VA—Nuisance crimes have declined in the City of Alexandria, according to newly-released police department data.

As the name suggests, nuisance crimes are offenses that can be considered a "nuisance" to the community. These include destruction, vandalism, prostitution, drug and narcotic offenses, gambling, disorderly conduct, driving under the influence, drunkenness, and liquor law violations.

In Alexandria, the 2,445 nuisance crimes in 2018 dropped from 3,194 the previous year. Most offenses had lower numbers than 2017 with the exception of prostitution and disorderly conduct.
