Vehicle Safety Inspection Enforcement Resumes In Alexandria
Enforcement of the current state vehicle registration decals is still suspended as the DMV experiences a backlog for appointments.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — On Tuesday, the City of Alexandria announced enforcement of Virginia vehicle safety inspections has resumed. That enforcement had been suspended since August.
According to a city statement, Inspection stations are open, and state guidelines allow service station staff to change the inspection process to avoid entering the vehicle. Vehicle owners lessees are encouraged to stay current on inspections while following COVID-19 safety guidelines at inspection stations.
While this enforcement has returned, the city will continue to suspend enforcement of current Virginia vehicle registrations. A city statement cites the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles' backlog for available appointment times of up to three months. Vehicle registrations that would have expired between March and July had been extended for up to 180 days, not to exceed Oct.31, according to the Virginia DMV website.
