Vehicle Stolen At Gas Station In Alexandria, Later Recovered

Police are investigating a car theft while the victim was pumping gas.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police say a vehicle was stolen and recovered while a victim was pumping gas Thursday. A similar incident was reported earlier this month.

The vehicle theft happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Richmond Highway. The victim had finished pumping gas when a suspect entered the vehicle through an unlocked door and stole it. No injuries were reported.

Police used the vehicle's tracking system to locate it. The vehicle was recovered in the 2600 block of 18th Street SE in Washington, DC just before 11 a.m.

Another vehicle theft while a victim was filling up at a gas station was reported on Feb. 7. The incident happened in the 700 block of South Patrick Street after 1 p.m. The suspects were seen on surveillance video and used the victim's credit card in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Police urge drives to keep vehicle doors locked and keep any keys or key fobs on hand while pumping gas. Vehicles should not be left unattended when possible, according to police.
