Area could see 50 MPH wind gusts, power outages. The NWS has issued a Wind Advisory for the DC metro area Thursday until 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory Thursday for the DC metro region including most of Northern Virginia (see map below) until 7 p.m. The weather service issued the advisory shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday. Residents can expect winds of 20 to 30 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH, according to the weather service.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 45 to 55 MPH are expected.

The National Weather Service warns that strong winds could blow down tree limbs and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
